What to do

  • Offer drinks often and keep the room cool.
  • Light clothing, no extra blankets.
  • Take the temperature again in the evening and note it.

What to watch

  • Drinking and wet nappies or toilet trips
  • Breathing: rate, noise, effort
  • Alertness, play and mood
  • Temperature, with the time it was taken

Call emergency services if

  • Breathing is fast, noisy or the lips turn blue
  • The child is hard to wake, floppy or does not respond
  • A rash does not fade when pressed with a glass
  • A seizure, or any fever in a baby under 3 months
